On January 1, 2022, a new process for entrepreneurs to bring their home goods to market will go into effect in Illinois. This new Home-To-Market Process implements the Cottage Food Act which incorporates the previous Cottage Foods Operation, Cupcake, and Farmer’s Market Acts.
Home-To-Market Food Operators must register with the Winnebago County Health Department and cooperate with any necessary food investigations and inspections. Learn more about the registration process here. Home to market foods must be labeled to identify their product to the public and promote safety for consumers. Some products are prohibited from being sold to the public through this process including: meat, sprouts, and fresh cut melon. Learn more about the regulations here.
