A Baby In Illinois Dies In Their Sleep

There are steps parents and caregivers can take to help keep babies safe during sleep. These Safe Sleep steps help greatly reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths.

If you have a baby under the age of one, take steps for Safe Sleep with the ABC’S.

ABC'S to Safe Sleep for your baby

1. ALONE

Babies should sleep alone – no blankets, toys, bumpers, stuffed animals or other people

Share A Room, Not A Bed: It is not safe for a baby to sleep in an adult bed (with or without people). Keep your baby’s bassinet or crib in the same room where you sleep until age 6 month, but do NOT sleep with the baby in the same bed.

2. BACKS

Always place your baby on their back, not their side or stomach, to sleep.

3. CRIB

Use a bassinet or crib/portable play yard with a flat, firm surface and tight-fitted sheet for sleep

4. SMOKE-FREE

Nobody should smoke around your baby or in the room where they sleep
