Center for Health Protection (HP)
The Center for Health Protection monitors for and notifies of conditions and diseases that could impact the public health. This Center provides guidance and education to the community on how to prevent and control the spread of communicable diseases. In addition, this Center works with healthcare providers, schools, long-term care facilities, and other partners to monitor for communicable diseases, including vaccine-preventable diseases. The Center for Health Protection provides notification of public health concerns to public and partners.

Programs
1. Communicable Disease
- Receives disease reports for Communicable Diseases and conducts contact investigations
2. STI Prevention & Control
- Receives disease reports for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), also known as STDs, and conducts contact investigations
- Provides prevention education and resources to the community
- Assists impacted individuals with notification of partners
- STI Counselor provides understanding about infection and links to treatment
3. HIV Case Management With Illinois HIV Care Connect
- Provides case management and supportive services to those living with HIV
4. Drug Overdose Prevention Program
- Provides education and awareness to community members on the opioid epidemic and how to prevent death due to an opioid overdose
- Provides free naloxone (NARCAN) trainings and naloxone (NARCAN) kits to Winnebago County community members in an effort to reduce the number of opioid overdose deaths
- Provides community members with resources related to addiction and mental health
5. Harm Reduction/"Ask For Winnie"
- Provides free fentanyl and xylazine text strips
- Provides free naloxone and condoms
- Provides confidential STD/STI Testing and Treatment
6. Medical Cannabis Registration Support
- Provides assistance completing the application process for medical cannabis
