Get Naloxone Ready
When given in time, naloxone, a non-addictive drug, can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and save a life.
Every home should have naloxone. The Winnebago County Health Department offers free naloxone to the community. Individuals and organizations can get naloxone at WCHD – 555 N Court St. Rockford, IL 61103. Ask a staff member or ask for WINNIE

Naloxone Red Boxes
Business, organizations, and community groups can host a naloxone Red Box to help make it more accessible to employees, clients and community members. Red Boxes are free of cost.

Naloxone Vending Machines
Naloxone is available to the public for free at vending machines in the community:

Naloxone Use Reporting
After using naloxone to help an individual experiencing overdose, please complete the Overdose Reversal and Naloxone Administration Reporting Form within 5 business days. This form helps to collect data on the need for naloxone in the community.Â
Dispose of Medications Safely
Safely dispose of your unused and unneeded medication.Â

Opioid Prescribing Standard
On March 9, 2020, the healthcare systems in Winnebago County announced the establishment of community Opioid Prescribing Standard. Healthcare providers will adhere to these standardized guidelines when prescribing and dispensing opioids, unless special circumstances are justified. All outpatient services such as clinics, urgent care, and specialty practices, including but not limited to orthopedics, psychiatry, general surgery, and emergency departments, will utilize these standards.Â
