WIC is Open at WCHD

The Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is open and serving residents. To access WIC call the Winnebago County Health Department at 815-720-4000 and choose option 1 for WIC.

Food Pantries

Local food pantries are available to support food needs. If you are going to a local food pantry, there are a few tips to know before you go. Use the Route Guide below from the University of Illinois Extension, Rockford Mass Transit District, NICNE and 100 Strong.

Beginning on Saturday, November 1, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits were not fully available to many Illinoisans who rely on this funding to buy groceries. As of November 7, some SNAP benefits were available. With full SNAP benefits being restored, the Illinois Department of Human Services anticipates that all SNAP recipients should receive their full November benefits by November 20. SNAP customers can visit snapfederalimpact.illinois.gov for the most up-to-date information and to find food locally.

This does not impact WIC services, which continue to be fully available through your Winnebago County Health Department.

You can help by supporting your neighbors by donating cash to your local food bank or pantry. Click here to learn more about donating to local food pantries.
