HIV testing, including self-testing, helps people get the care they need to stay healthy, no matter what their test result is. If the test is negative, there are tools like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medication and condoms to prevent HIV. If the test is positive, they can start HIV treatment (antiretroviral therapy, or ART) quickly to stay healthy. Knowing your test result also gives you a chance to get other health services like vaccines and tests for other sexually transmitted infections.
